Phantom Blade Zero Sold 300,000 Preorders in a Week
S-GAME's Phantom Blade Zero sold about 300,000 Steam preorders in its first week, worth roughly $14.5 million, and holds over two million wishlists.

September 9, 2026 was supposed to be release day for Phantom Blade Zero. The date had been public since December 2025, and S-GAME moved it in June 2026, pushing the wuxia action game about 50 days to October 29, 2026. Chinese gaming press marked the passed date with retrospective pieces about the launch that did not happen. What arrived in its place was a set of preorder numbers that put an independent Chinese studio in rare air.
A first week measured against Black Myth: Wukong
Preorders opened across all platforms on August 12, 2026. Industry analytics firm Alinea Analytics estimates that within a week the game had sold about 300,000 copies on Steam and generated roughly $14.5 million, a figure equal to 73 percent of Black Myth: Wukong's preorders over the same period and 6.4 times those of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Alinea also puts Steam wishlists above two million as of late August 2026, up from 1.6 million in less than a week, the highest of any game releasing in 2026, with more than half from outside China. Third-party tracker Gamalytic is more conservative, estimating about 265,000 preorders inside a range of 132,600 to 397,800, roughly $15.9 million in revenue, and a first-month forecast near 727,000 copies with 78.3 percent of buyers in the China region. Alinea noted one cooling signal worth watching: by August 25, 2026 the game had slipped to around 19th on Steam's top-sellers list while holding 7th on wishlists and 3rd on wishlist activity.
A first-party-level push for a self-published studio
S-GAME Studio develops and publishes Phantom Blade Zero itself, and the marketing behind it is not what an independent studio normally receives. Sony gave the game a dedicated State of Play on August 18, 2026, the first for a Chinese title, and Alinea describes the promotional treatment as comparable to Sony's own first-party releases. Action star Donnie Yen has been attached as a creative and motion-capture consultant since 2023. The studio has said the game contains no AI-generated content, a line that plays well in both markets. It also holds a Chinese publishing license, removing the structural barrier that has kept domestic releases of this scale waiting.
Pricing, editions, and the exclusivity window
Phantom Blade Zero costs $59.99 in the United States, per the Steam storefront on September 11, 2026, against ¥268 for the standard edition and ¥328 for the deluxe in China, roughly a third cheaper. A ¥1,199 physical collector's box, limited to 20,000 units worldwide, ran through two reservation batches on the JD flagship store in August 2026. PlayStation 5 gets the game at launch alongside Steam and the Epic Games Store, with a 12-month console exclusivity window, and Xbox and Switch 2 versions are expected around fall 2027.
Why the delay is the least interesting part
The game is a kungfupunk action title built in Unreal Engine 5, following an assassin named Soul who has 66 days left to live after a heart wound. S-GAME spent its extra 50 days on the opening stretch, the part of an action game that decides whether two million wishlists convert. For an independent Chinese studio operating at a budget level its domestic scene has rarely seen, the discipline behind the slip matters more than the slip. Whether the wishlists turn into launch sales on October 29, 2026 is the next number, and it is the one Alinea's 73-percent comparison cannot predict.
